Insurance
Health insurance for residents and their dependents. A monthly premium contribution is required.
Dental insurance offers two different options for residents and dependents. A monthly premium contribution is required for both basic and enhanced coverage.
Optical/vision insurance standard coverage plan is free to residents and dependents. A monthly premium is required for the enhanced plan.
William Beaumont Hospital provides prescription drugs for residents and their dependents at pharmacy cost plus 10 percent, and for most services rendered in the hospital, the facility fees and laboratory fees above amounts covered by insurance are waived.
Disability coverage includes salary continuation for the first 180 days and long term disability insurance that pays 60 percent of salary beginning on the 181st day.
Term life insurance is provided for the resident at twice the annual salary. Optional coverage may be purchased for resident and dependents.
Malpractice insurance is provided for residents while acting within the scope of their duties for which they are employed by William Beaumont Hospital.
Vacations and conferences
All residents receive three
weeks of vacation each year.
One additional week is provided to all residents for the purpose of attending an approved educational conference conforming to hospital guidelines. Conference and related travel expenses are reimbursed up to a maximum of $800 in each postgraduate year.
Leave of absence
Family, medical and other personal leaves of absence are provided according to uniform hospital policy. A maximum of six weeks of the academic year may be utilized for vacation, conference, and other leaves of absence. Any additional time must be made up in subsequent years and/or will extend the duration of training. In many cases, specialty certifying boards or residency accreditation organizations also have requirements that may affect a program's leave policies.
