Welcome!

William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan is one of the premiere hospitals
in the country. A 1061 bed hospital, with more admissions than any hospital in the country, it is the only Level 1 trauma center in Oakland County, which is home to approximately 1.2 million people. It also houses one of the busiest Emergency
Departments in the country, with over 115,000 visits last year.

In addition to the main campus at Royal Oak, Beaumont also has a sister hospital
about 15 minutes north.  The Troy campus is a 226 bed community hospital, with an
ED that sees nearly 70,000 patients annually.

Together they combine the technical advantages of a community based private hospital, with the intellectual rigor of being a leading academic center.

Your selection of a training program is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. The experience of your residency and the educational foundation set during these years will stay with you for the rest of your life. In making this decision, we believe you will find the Beaumont program has a number of notable strengths including a strong balance of didactic training, clinical exposure and a camaraderie and esprit de corps that is difficult to find anywhere else. We further offer an ideal balance between a university affiliated "super-sized" community hospital and an urban location with tremendous research opportunities. The program benefits from extensive experience in trauma both at our home facility and an away month at an even more urban trauma center. At the end of residency training, we believe you will be well prepared to pursue any chosen career goal, whether it involves academics or the community practice of emergency medicine.

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at William Beaumont Hospital is one of the older and more established programs in the country. It is a PGY 1-2-3 structured program (three years total), fully approved by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a categorical emergency medicine program. Those successfully completing the residency are eligible for certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. The residency program is designed to meet and exceed all applicable ACGME requirements and to cover the entire core curriculum in emergency medicine.

Please take a few minutes to browse the contents of this website; we feel that it highlights some of the unique strengths of this program. If you click on the Movie section , you will find a residency video to give a little more insight into our program.
